Kyle Chalmers

Kyle Chalmers OAM, announced himself as the new star of Australian swimming when he stormed home to win the Rio 2016 Olympics men’s 100 metres freestyle final. The South Australian came from nowhere to finally snatch the coveted crown, becoming the first Aussie male to do so since Michael Wenden in Mexico City in 1968.

Chalmers, who was 18 at the Games, touched seventh in the field of eight at the halfway mark before unleashing a barnstorming finish to become Australia’s youngest Olympic swimming champion since Ian Thorpe in 2000. He swam a huge personal best to break his own world junior record in a time of 47.58 seconds, ahead of silver medallist Pieter Timmers of Belgium (47.80) and bronze medallist, America’s defending champion Nathan Adrian (47.85).

In 2018 Kyle again represented the country competing on home soil at his first Commonwealth Games. He came away with an impressive 4 gold medals and 1 silver. At the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships he had another successful meet winning 4 medals including 1 gold in the 100m Freestyle.

Despite battling numerous injuries in the lead up to qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Chalmers qualified with a time of 47.59 seconds in the men’s 100m Freestyle, his fastest time in over two years. This ensured Kyle would be able to defend his gold medal in Tokyo. Chalmers swam an equal personal best time of 47.08 seconds in the final to claim the silver medal, finishing just .06 seconds behind American Caleb Dressel. Earlier in the games Chalmers had anchored the Australian men’s relay team to help win the bronze in both the 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle relays.

Pasta and quality nutrition have always been a huge part of Kyle’s training schedule and the young swimmer is excited to be promoting the nutritional benefits of San Remo pasta.

“I’m thrilled to be working closely with San Remo, a great Australian brand, whose products I have eaten since I was a child. As a family, we always ate a lot of pasta and these days it has become a big part of my pre-race routine that helps me perform to the best of my ability. In fact, I even had spaghetti bolognese the night before my Olympic win”.
